Game Features:
Set in the imaginary ruined city of Nosgoth, the story follows the attempts
of the un-dead entity 'Raziel' to avenge betrayal by his master: Kain.
Raziel was cast down for evolving into a vampire before Kain and now he must
avenge himself by stalking the material world, slaying his former Brethren
until he can face his Master again. The Un-dead can only be defeated by
plunging a magical stake through the heart. Raziel absorbs the souls of his
victims for the energy he craves, (Hence the name: 'Soul Reaver') if he
becomes too drained of this energy, he lapses into a parallel world known as
the 'Spectral Plane'. (When this happens the architecture bizarrely morphs
in real time around Raziel to become twisted and warped - each level has
been designed twice!) Eventually he uses this phenomenon to his advantage
to overcome obstacles and traps, though enemies must be faced in both
worlds.
