P L O T
A parody within an action thriller. Arnold
Schwartzenegger plays an innocent man who is sentenced
to the Running Man game show, a futuristic audience
participation capital punishment television show.
While running from champions with chainsaws and
sharpened hockey sticks, the host is busy with calls
to the network about ratings.

Game show host Damon Killian is played by Richard Dawson,
long-time host of the American game show "Family Feud".
Arnold Schwarzenegger is heard saying: "I'll be back!",
a phrase he would be associated with for the rest of his
life.
Paula Abdul did the choreography for the dancers.
This film is loosely based on a novel written by Stephen
King that he penned under the pseudonym of Richard
Bachman. He wrote the story in 72 hours, and it was
published with virtually no changes.
Was originally supposed to be filmed in Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada with Christopher Reeves cast in the
role of Ben Richards. When the producers decided to move
the production to Los Angeles, Arnold Schwarzenegger was
recast in the role.
Goofs: The video scoreboard shows footage that occurs
later in the film.
A springboard launches Ben when Dynamo shoots with a
lightning bolt.
The stain of Subzero's blood on Ben's gamesuit is
inconsistant through the film.
When Richards is fighting Fireball, he throws several
55 gal barrels at him. The barrels he picks up are
made of lightweight polyethylene; however in the
following shot, they have been replaced by much
heavier steel drums.
In the helicopter, Ben says, "I will not kill helpless
people"; in the game show with the original
"uncensored" footage of the massacre he says, "I will
not kill helpless human beings."
In the uncensored version of the Bakersfield massacre,
it shows the man knocking out Ben with his gun from
Ben's point-of-view, which is not a view the camera
could see from.
In the prison Ben says to a guard, "Need a lift?" and
picks him up but it's clearly a dummy that he lifts
When in the ice rink, Weiss is pushed along by Sub-Zero
towards the camera. Just as Weiss almost hits the
camera an arm reaches out from the left-hand side to
catch him.
When Killian is at the entrance to the control room, the
gate opens before Sven has finished entering the
security code.
Display on helicopter attacking Bakersfield shows
Latitude & Longitude as being 45N and 19W. Bakersfied
is in fact 35.3N and 119W.
When Richards returns to the studio to confront Killian,
the television audience is able to continue watching
the show even though all the camera operators and
stage crew have run away.
The wound holes in Ben's jumpsuit disappear and reappear
at various points in the movie.
During the opening dance number for The Running Man game
show, one spectator is seen twice, in two different
places, at the same time.
Announcer's voiceover: "The Running Man has been brought
to you by: Breakaway Paramilitary Uniforms, Orville Pure
Procreation Pills, and Cadre Cola - it hits the spot.
Promotional considerations paid for by Elton Flame
Throwers, Wainright Electrical Launchers, and Hammand &
Gates Chain Saws. Damon Gillian's wardrobe by Chez
Antoine, 19th century craftsmanship for the 21st century
man. Cadre trooper and studio guard's sidearms provided
by Colt Chester, the pistol of patriots. Remember,
tickets for the ICS studio tour are always available for
class A citizens in good standing. If you'd like to be a
contestant on The Running Man, send a self-addressed,
stamped envelope to ICS Talent Hunt, care of your local
affiliate, and then go out and do something really
despicable! I'm Bill Hilgen. Good night and take care!"
Edit: The German Video-version (FSK-16) is heavily cut
(about 10 Minutes). There aren't any extreme violent
scenes anymore.
Althought the DVD case itself and the descriptions of
this dvd say that there is English captioning available,
there are NONE present on the dvd. Niether VobSub, nor a
physical DVD player recognize any captions for this DVD.
Technical Notes: The first scene release of this was by
ELITEMEDIA; wasn't telecined down to 23.976 fps
which resulted in one dupe frame for every five
making for jerky video. Slight interlacing was also
apparent. Ours was ivtc'd to the PROPER framerate
of 23.976 resulting in a nice rip of this Arnie classic.
