PLOT SUMMARY : A veteran samurai who has fallen on hard times answers
a village's request for protection from bandits. He
recruits 6 other samurai to help him, and they teach
the townspeople how to defend themselves in exchange
for three meals a day. The film culminates in a giant
battle when 40 bandits attempt to raid the village.

PROPER REASONS: VCDVault's old rip was decimated from its 25 fps PAL
source to a bad framerate of 20. The jerky motion is
apparent; vV sample is included.
vV's audio was 56 kbit 24 KHz Stereo MP3, unacceptable *
under any circumstances.
RIPPER'S NOTES: Note that we have spoken with the vV ripper and he gave
us his blessing to redo this famous classic.
A few things I'd like to note:
I chose to use XviD instead of a direct SBC proper for
two reasons: to avoid problems at a somewhat low bitrate
for this noisy source, and for Koepi's Greyscale mode.
Criterion's 1998 R1 DVD has incredibly bad video which I
had to filter. On the bright side, Criterion's soft subs
allow more bits to be used for the image than with the
R2's hard subs.
This rip has taken a month with 30+ tests and 4 encodes
to perfect - some major SChiZO love. Enjoy!
