Richard Parker and Larry Wilson discover evidence of
fraud at the insurance company they work for, and their
boss, Bernie Lomax, rewards them with a stay at his
luxurious island beach house. They arrive to find
Bernie dead, and find out that he had been embezzling
from the company and had hired a hitman to have them
killed, but only after he had left the island. Now to
stay alive, Richard and Larry must convince the unknown
killer that Bernie is alive also.

Andrew McCarthy was asked the read the script to think
about playing the part of Richard. When McCarthy read the
script, he loved the part of Larry, and got that instead.
Terry Kiser (Bernie) suffered a few broken ribs during
filming due to all the pitfalls and stunts of playing a
dead man.
Bernie's house at the beach was not on "Hampton Island"
at all, but actually at a nature preserve in North
Carolina. It was built just for this movie, with the
agreement that it would be torn down right after
shooting and the land returned to its pristine condition.
Goofs: Bernie does not always appear dead; he occasionally
blinks his eyes, etc.
When dealing with the corpse inside the house, Richard
is (not) wearing shoes.
Unconscious guy in closet puts his feet up so that door
can be closed.
Although the main characters (Larry and Richard) are
obvious bachelors, Richard is wearing a wedding band
throughout the movie.
The recording of Bernie's and Paulie's phone
conversation is different from the original -
Paulie's "Uh huh!" is missing.
When Larry is talking about drugs his lip movements
don't match his voice.
When Paulie is in the house and he's chasing after
Richard, Larry, and Gwen, Gwen's hat Disappears from
her hand and is later seen lying next to Bernie's
body.
When Bernie is falling off the boat you can see Larry
turning around just in time to see him go. Yet a few
minutes later he looks back and is surprised that
Bernie isn't there.
Technical Note: The first scene release of this was done
by ReFLuX; was FS. The sample of that is included.
