The current situation of applying Dolby Vision in x265 releases, seems to have
gone totally sideways, with dupes being made and various ways to apply Dolby
Vision being used by various groups.
The problem is that the current rules were written more than 2 years ago, and
back then, an attempt were made, to write some rules for Dolby Vision, that
would fit the future. It clearly hasn't worked.
We would like to point out, that we have nothing against Dolby Vision, but we
feel that the workflow should be the same by all groups, and this workflow
should, at least in generel terms, be described in the rules. This would mean
that all releases would contain the same Dolby Vision, no matter which group
has done the release.
We would like to invite the groups, to try and make a Dolby Vision addendum
to the current rules, so we can all include Dolby Vision on the same terms.
If you think you can be of help in this proccess, please join the old channel,
that were used to create the rules 2 years ago. If you don't have the details,
we are sure that you will be able to find someone who does.
The alternative is "The Wild West", where each group does whatever they feel
is the best way to do things, with no regards to the current rules. We don't
think that it will benefit anyone, to keep going down that road.
