RELEASE NOTES

One of the biggest games in Europe last year_Grand Theft Auto_never made
much of a splash in the United States, part in thanks to a delayed
release by its US publisher, ASC Games.

But the game was controversial in Europe, sparking a predictable outcry
from UK newspapers, and just this week a number of French retailers have
begun pulling it from shelves. Why? Because of the game's criminal
content_the name of the game is stealing cars, running over pedestrians,
and acting as a courier for the mob.

The feel of the game is a bit retro, having the top-down look of a Micro
Machines or Death Rally. But sometimes simpler is better, and GTA's
combination of fast-paced arcade action, a living, breathing virtual city
(your car thefts will be complicated by traffic and pedestrians and the
city's watchful police), and the ability to get in and out of different
vehicles made for a smartly tight game.

So it's not surprising that Grand Theft Auto has earned not only a
sequel_Grand Theft Auto 2_but also an expansion pack, called Grand Theft
Auto_London 1969.

The expansion pack is a pretty basic, no frills affair: the same basic
engine and gameplay are included, though there's also a brand new
setting, thirty new missions, new cars, and a hopping new soundtrack.
What's new is the setting_instead of the gritty streets of contemporary
New York, the add-on goes off into London of the 1960s. Austin Powers,
here we come.

Working for the British mob, you'll run errands for such crimelords as
Harold Cartwright, Jack Parkinson, and two obnoxious Cockneys, the Crisp
Brothers. Vehicles of choice this time will range from a convertible
sports car (painted like the Union Jack, baby) to stretch limos and the
old-fashioned London taxis.

Install:

Unzip then unace manually. Double click on GTA.REG to setup your registry
Run \GTAWIN\GTA_UK.EXE to play. Run LONDON.BAT to setup and play the DOS
version. Run GTAFX_UK.EXE to run DOS with 3DFX.
