Notes:
When we decided to release this awesome movie, there was no
doubt that this would be sought after due to the cult status
of this movie. We wanted to ensure that it had the best
treatment possible as it will be the definitive version until
a superior BluRay/HDDVD sees the light of day.
The source is glorious:
The transfer was presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen,
and at the time of its release was perhaps the single best
reason to own an HDTV. The transfer is simply breathtaking,
from the opening panning shots of the Nostromo s interior to
the clarity of the film s landscape. The HD resolution
really paid off with every single detail standing out in
all its 25+ year glory.
The DTheater not only had a super Dolby Digital track, but
also contained a 1.5 Mbps DTS track. The DVD released of this
also contained a top-notch DTS track, but it can not hold a
candle to the clarity of this new track. While still not
necessarily containing the punch and pizzazz of some newer
tracks, Jerry Goldsmith s daunting score has never sounded
better.
We felt it important to bring you the best visual and audio
feast given the quality of the source for those who wish to
enjoy/archive this treasure. DVD5 would have meant a blow
x264 HD specs video bitrate and we wanted to make the most
and include the DTS soundtrack. So we encoded it at DVD5 x1.5

What the hell is DTheater?
D-VHS was an extension of the VHS format, capable of meeting
the needs for high definition digital recording and playback
while still keeping full backward compatibility with the
original VHS format. This allowed it to play/record both
high and standard definition programming.
Pre-recorded D-VHS cassettes were sold under the brand name
D-Theater in the US.
While D-Theater is a D-VHS tape, it is only compatible
with D-VHS decks with the D-Theater logo.
They provide content in both 720p and 1080i as well as at
least one Dolby Digital audio track. Supported movies studios
included 20th Century Fox, Artisan Entertainment, DreamWorks
and Universal Pictures. D-Theater provided true-HD but has
since been displaced by newer formats such as Blu-ray Disc and
HD DVD. The last movie available was in 2004 - being 20th
Century Fox's I, Robot.
Additional tracks were included on some D-Theater in other sound
formats such as DTS.
