Using the music from his acclaimed "Greendale" album, Neil Young
turned the themes from the record into this epic drama. The story is
centered around the mythical town of Greendale, a formerly idyllic
place rocked by the sudden shooting of a policeman. Fingers point at
young Jed Green, forcing his family to rally around him after the
media impinges on their lives. Songs from Young and his faithful band
Crazy Horse proliferate throughout, making this an awesome aural and
visual treat for any fans of the innovative rocker.

N O T E S
Neil Young's movie is much like his music, raw, rough, and ragged. The
movie was shot in 8 mm, 16 mm and Super-8. Most of it is grainy, and
some is very grainy. Most of the footage is 18fps, but there is some
24fps film, and some 30fps video. I was tempted to make the whole thing
18fps, as it was real hard to compress, but the 30fps sections converted
to 18fps just played too jerky, so I settled on 23.976fps. As a result,
the 18fps parts have 6 dupe frames in every second, but the 30fps video
sections play pretty smoothly. Both the AVI Sample and the VobSample
show examples of both (the TV parts were originally 30fps).
This movie is like a very long music video or a rock opera, with the
cast lip-synching the song lyrics. Two extras are included, a tongue-
in-cheek Making-Of Doc, and a live version of Be The Rain, with the DD
5.1 Audio.
