MOViE iNFO

First Slovak  film of  Janosik was  made with  great
help  of Slovaks  who lived  in America.  The first
Janosik in  film was  Theodor Pistek  and there were
two  versions  of  the  film.  American  and  Czecho
-Slovak. What is really interesting the American one
ended with  happy end  while the  other not.  Mainly
there  was  created the  love  story with  Janosik's
girlfriend  Anicka and  depicted social  oppression.
The story and the whoel  film is a bit plain  but it
has really great cultural  value and in 1995  UNESCO
inserted  it to  the World  Cultural Heritage  as a
markable piece of cinematographic history.

Release & History info...

You  can  notice  little  squares  at  29:20.   This
technical flaw is  on DVD, it's  not result by  XViD
encoding.

Slovak hero - Janosik was born in Terchova in  1688.
Sice 1711 he was known as the leader of padders, is
known that he was really trustful and honest  person
but the group of padders wasn't the same. There were
some accidents and one of them caused the death of a
priest  what  played  really big  role  when  he was
captured  by "police".  In 17th  mart 1713  in late
afternoon he was hanged  in Sibenicky at the  age of
25. But as someone  told: "You cannot kill  Janosik.
Janosik  is  freedom  and  freedom  is  endless!" he
became  the  symbol for  all  Slovaks and  oppressed
people in general.
