Miserable Therese Raquin (Simone Signoret) is stuck in a marriage to Camille
(Jacques Duby), a hypochondriac with a grasping mother (Sylvie) who
constantly criticizes her. Then she meets Laurent (Raf Vallone), a truck
driver who wants her to run away with him. She refuses, but passion wins out
over common sense, and indecision and guilt lead the adulterous triangle to
a bad fate.
