Being a film noir fan and a Bogart fan, I had very high expectations
for Dead Reckoning and for the most part I was not disappointed. Sure,
there are many clich s of the genre (even from other Bogart vehicles)
noticeable throughout but they don't really detract from the enjoyment
because Bogart the legend carries us through and keeps us interested in
the usual twists and turns of the plot. Bogart's character it goes
without saying is totally admirable for his loyalty and Scott, although,
not the most versatile actress, makes us understand why Johnny loved her
so much. Martinelli and his stooge who 'likes the music' made for
entertaining villains. Terrific entertainment.
