Todd and Terry are twins. They are blonde,
cute, bright and identical in every respect,
with one exception. One of them is a murderer.
This starts one night at a drive-in theater
when a teenager was slaughtered in the back
seat of his car while his girlfriend watched.
Todd is found guilty for the heinous crime
and is locked away in an asylum.
Years passed and Terry lives happily with
his mother, who smothers him with enough love
for two sons. All is fine until one night
they received news that Todd escaped. The
nightmare begins once again and out of its
forbidding darkness steps a maniacal killer,
raging for blood.
-+ Rip Notes +-
According to Wikipedia and some IMDB users
this film was originally screened in 1987,
four years after it was made, as Nightmare
at Shadow Woods. The wait may explain why the
theatrical version is considered to be cut
and inferior, perhaps only finding the chance
for a screening after it had much of its
gorier content cut. Even if it meant removing
the elements that define it as a slasher.
Luckily Prism released it on VHS under the
title of Blood Rage with significantly less cut.
Lucky because when it finally made its way to
DVD under its original title it surprisingly
remained as cut as ever. The DVD does however
have a pool scene that is not only placed
differently within the timeline but which is
extended beyond that of the VHS. To be sure,
the DVD is a nicer transfer that brings out
more color and makes for a brighter overall film
but some would argue the much darker VHS version
lends itself to the genre more appropriately.
Personally we'd find the ideal version somewhere
in between, fully uncut of course.
We did our best to clean it up and raise the
levels but there is such high contrast present
in scenes that only so much could be done. The
audio also underwent a little clean up. Enjoy
this superior uncut version of Nightmare at
Shadow Woods as it was originally intended to
be seen.
ps. This has such a classic VHS cover it must
be shared! http://tinyurl.com/334qmry
And in case you were wondering this version
is about 2 minutes and 30 seconds longer
than the DVD.
-+ Who We Are +-
Since 2003, FLAiR has been dedicated to pres-
erving the neglected titles of an entertainment
era long gone. A time of classic kids flicks,
painstaking hand-drawn animation and countless
cheesy low-budget horrors. A time wh n pop had
a King, and rock had a Queen. A time when special
FX wizards ruled, and CGI was just one of their
many tools.
Driven by nostalgia and memories of better
days, we seek to relive those times, and share
those memories. While our belief is that the
80s represent the very pinnacle of pop culture,
we will not limit ourselves to one decade, or
any single genre. We will not ignore the movies
considered insignificant or even embarrassing by
the studios. We will not disregard a timepiece
just because it is dated.
Whereas most groups rely solely on digital
sources, there are still thousands of rare and
out of print titles, many of which have no
planned digital release. We've made it our
mission to dig these out, clean them up using
the best hardware and techniques available to
us, and share them with the world. Be it VHS,
Laserdisc or more exotic formats, we're here
to bring you the best (and worst!) of decades
past. So sit back and enjoy as we uncover and
pay tribute to an age of cinema we will never
get back.
