Notes: Just a small reminder for those who may need it...
The point of our rips is to replace the old-rules-based 2pass rips,
with the same goal those do: to be a affordable-to-get release with
a point of sense... playable among most of hardware out there...
Not to be a 20 GiB release with oversized bitrate and core audio
tracks in multiple languages, various subtitles... which is useless
to the vast majority of people. If you want that, sorry but you won't
find it in our rips.
This is about useful and playable rips, not about untouched-like
material size.
To do so we focus on the part that is actually and currently (as of the
current and old rules) improvable:
the video... this means CRF-based encoded, with better encode settings
(slower or veryslow) and proper croping (not mod8 crap). As stated above
we feel the rest are ok and useful to most of people (5 to 10 GiB rips
for 1080p) with english or native audio track in the best possible (but
also playable) option. When it comes to subtitles (excepting forced
cases, of course) and chapters index, well, let's be honest: no one cares.
And btw, optional settings such as deblock are completely up to the
group (sometimes right and sometimes also wrong). There is no formula
that matches every single situation (soft, grainy video...), so we just
feel it's the best and the most logical choice to leave it as it's by
default, so rips are as transparent as they can be... not group biased.
crf 17 preset veryslow for a top quality rip :)
