notes:
The year is 1999 and many things occurred; the Euro has been released, Bill
Clinton will be acquitted for his lying about fellatio, Napster was released to
the public, and the predecessor of the BDRip (DVDRip) section as we know it begins
to gain traction.
Almost 21 years later now a clear trend indicative of weakening demand for SD
releases has emerged through an incredibly small market share for SD only titles,
prebw stats for SD releases, and many established sites modifying their rules for
xvid/x264-sd as "affils only". We used the shutdown of this past year to reflect,
secure, and streamline our process with a renowned focus on quality over quantity.
Through that reflection it is our current opinion it has long been time to retire
BDRip from the release schedule in favour of 720p, 1080p, and 2160p encoded resolutions.
While we will not be actively encouraging site ops, couriers, or release groups to
abandon SD releases as SD-only titles do exist, we will not be encouraging the usage
or perceived benefits of SD encodes from HD sources. In the future please do not
call out other release groups which share a similar opinion to ours as being unfriendly
or a detriment to this release category simply because they have determined an
unfavourable benefit-cost ratio.
We have the utmost respect for all members of old and current who paved the way
through their input and direction for the advancement of this release category.
In the spirit of this continued push for development, it is our opinion that the
sun will likely be setting on 720p too as the ruleset for 4320p will eventually
begin to be discussed, debated, and finalized.
