OBSCURE MANIFESTO
We in OBSCURE (tm), believe in the facts that the most important
thing with a DVD-R release is that the video and audio quality
have the highest prioirty. Our goal is to release DVD-r's with
a video and audio quality that do not differ from the original
disc. Due to these facts, we happily remove extras from
a release to make room for the video and audio. For us, DVD
(and DVD-R) is about having the best availiable video and audio
quality that this excellent format can handle, so that we get
a thrilling experience on our HI-FI systems. Some DVD's though,
are constructed in such a way that it is impossible not
having to downsample the main movie even when all extras are
gone, for instance when the movie is ~3 hours long and there is
a DD 5.1 track on it. When these situations occur we use CCE
with a minimum of 7 passes to encode the main movie to achieve
a quality that is highly acceptable.
We urge other groups out there to follow our example, keeping
the video and audio quality at its best. If this means removing
extras, then do that!
By the way. Please do not call downsampled releases with all
extras and audio tracks included as COMPLETE. DVD5 = COMPLETE.
Only! A release can not be COMPLETE if it has been tampered
with.
