COMMENT LINE : An isolated cabin in the woods. A dead child. Ransom.
Something evil .
Shot on video - pure ntsc - left at 30 fps.
Hobb's Bluff, LA. Four criminals attempt the unthinkable - - a corpse
kidnapping. But things go awry when they decide to use an isolated cabin of
an occult author as their hide-out.
THE ACTING:
Jeff Dylan Graham: Jeff came off very well as the character Gage, the one
person who was not a part of the plot to get some cash for a stiff, but was
thrown into the mess by a friend of his, Lace. Jeff really makes you feel
for his character. He gives a convincing performance of a person who seems
to be an outcast in life and is only doing what he is told to fit in.
Lilith Stabs: Liltih has an incredible way of deadpanning her lines, but in
this case for this movie it really works. She does well as the dominatrix
heading up the group of people willing to do anything to get some cash. And
man, does she look sexy in those outfits.
Cynder Moon: Much to my surprise and delight, she did a wonderful job as
Harrah, and she performs a trick in the movie that she is well known for, as
a matter of fact, it was on Ripley's Believe it or Not a while back. Pretty
cool.
Lucien Eisenbach: Man, this guy has the look of someone you wouldn't want to
meet in a dark alley, but his character seems harmless enough, just another
person who got wrapped up into this plot. As Burke, Lucien did a great job.
A soft spoken type of criminal who just wants some cash, but in a sick sort
of way.
I loved it. Steve sets everything up very well and I like his storytelling.
Sometimes in b-movies, the story doesn't really matter, as long as it has
buckets of blood and massive amounts of skin, it seems like. But this one
delivers, on both levels. An intelligent story with lots of surprises. Well
done.
On the skin factor, this baby is loaded with it. But, none of it seems
unnecessary. At least to me. There were reasons why these people took their
clothes off. It doesn't seem excessive.
On the gore factor, there are a couple of shots that were pretty gruesome,
but this movie relies more on the suspense aspect and in my opinion it
succeeds.
Now, one thing that I thought was really cool, and some people won't agree
with me, is it was shot in black and white. For me it was a nice change and
a throwback to the old days of movies I used to love like The Creature From
The Black Lagoon. It also had a very Evil Dead type of feel, which I also
think is awesome. The movement of the camera, Steve's direction and the
story. These two elements alone were a cool surprise.
Also, there was a scene with a sledgehammer that just made me cringe.
You'll have to rent it when it comes out to see what I'm talking about. Ouch!
Another cool thing is Steve also composes his own music, and he does it well.
Adds tons to the atmosphere. Music is very important to a production, and
it's just creepy.
