M O V i E   S U M M A R Y

Siegfried is from the first DVD of the 2 DVD set of Die Nibelungen
Saga. These Norse/Germanic myths and legends are well known to all
German speaking people, and were made into an opera by Wagner, and
an important and spectacular 2 film package by the master, Fritz Lang.
Our hero, Siegfried, learns of the beautiful Kriemhild, but to win her
hand he must first find a wife for her brother, King Gunther. This sets
in motion a series of adventures that results in betrayal and death.
Make sure you watch this one first.

R i P P E R'S  N O T E S

These films have been restored but, unfortunately, the restoration took
place in Europe, and the DVDs were mastered from the PAL 25fps version.
Therefore, the NTSC DVDs were full of blended fields. I ran them through
a deblending filter, as well as decimation of the duplicate frames, but
many blends still remain. The intertitles are in English in a difficult
to read Gothic script. The score is excellent, and I retained the DD 2.0
audio.

Included as an extra is an 80 MB portion of a DVD on German silent film
which explains more about Die Nibelungen, and particularly the dragon
slaying scene which highlights the first disc. Of all the many excellent
Fritz Lang films, this one, along with Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler, and M,
is my favorite. This 2 film set is moving and very powerful.
