PLOT:
Jet Li stars in this historical Hong Kong action film, as Chen Zhen,
a Chinese student in Japan in the 1920s. When his master is killed
during the Japanese occupation of China, he returns to avenge his
teacher's death. Back in China, he finds himself caught in the
escalating racial tensions between the Chinese and the Japanese. The
martial arts sequences in this 1994 film are handled more seriously
than flashy acrobatics of other kung fu epics of the time and are
perhaps a better showcase for Li's awe-inspiring fighting abilities.
This story is inspired heavily by Bruce Lee's classic Fists of Fury
(AKA The Chinese Connection).
RiPPERS NOTES:
Our friends in DVD-R released the uncut Taiwanese Thakral print of
this one with a runtime of 106 minutes. The Thakral print however is
not restored, has hardcoded subtitles and holds only the Mandarin
dub (feats that are not uncommon for Taiwanese cuts). The DVD-R
release propers english versions of the movie.
Our version is ripped from the Dragon Dynasty Ultimate Edition dvd
and even though shorter than the above mentioned Taiwanese print,
this one is remastered and restored, and includes the original
Cantonese/Japanese dubtrack. Look out for our 2 cd extras release of
this movie containing more than five minutes of deleted scenes, a
whole bunch of interviews and a lot more...
To retain stellar picture quality we decided to put this on 2 cd's.
