In Catania, Sicily, mafia gunman Giancarlo Rosso (Kari
V nänen) is ordered to a mission in Finland. His target
will be Marja (Leena Harjupatana), a Finnish girl who
Rosso is in love with.
Rosso arrives to Helsinki, Finland, collects his gun
from an arms dealer and goes to Marja's apartment, only
to find it deserted. While there, Marja's brother Martti
(Martti Syrj ) arrives. It turns out quickly that Rosso
and Martti speak no common language but they set off for
the search of Marja; the other speaks Italian, the other
speaks Finnish.
On the north-west coast of Finland, they purchase a
late-60's Chrysler from a junkyard and head for the fur
farm where Marja's and Martti's parents live. Martti and
Rosso learn that they are only a day late and continue to
drive northwards.
The incessant Finnish babble of Martti causes some tense
moments between them, but these are soon sorted out.
Rosso's original one-day travel budget long since gone,
they rob a local store during the trip and spend some
time in splendor. When they stop for the night in a
gravel pit, unidentified gunmen open fire from the
distance and Martti is killed.
Rosso buries his dead friend and drives along,
embittered. When his money run out, he robs a local bank,
but is wounded when the bank cashier (Maija-Liisa
Majanlahti) suddenly fires back. In a small town, he
manages to convince a Finnish girl (Liisa Oksanen) in a
pizzeria to come along with him, a wealthy man. They
spend a night together in a roadside motel, but suddenly
Rosso wakes up after a nightmare and starts shooting
blindly around. He escapes the motel and continues alone.
In Tampere (350 km south), he manages to locate Marja
who works as a waitress in a pizzeria, ironically named
Rosso. Just after Rosso arrives in the empty pizzeria,
two policemen rush after him and shoot him to death.
Rosso dies at the feet of Marja.
