The Game (1997)
Subtitles....: English
Audio .......: 640kbps (AC3)
Video Bitrate: 4223kbps
Codec........: x264
Resolution...: 1280x544
Framerate....: 23.976
Source.......: HDDVD, VC-1
IMDb.........: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119174/
Notes........: SEPTiC used a 1,5mbit dd+ audio stream for their encode,
which is not only way to high but also leads to compability issues,
if you want lossless audio transcode it to flac, which has way better
compability (and are slightly smaller and still lossless). A lot of people
cant install the sonic filters even on windows, largely due to the fact
that they are intended for the industry and not the end users.
By transcoding the 1,5mbit dd+ to 640kbit ac3 (same quality for almost
every audio system not insanely expensive), we saved enough space to make
a dvd5 encode. And we were not surprised when the picture wise quality was almost
identical to the SEPTiC release.
We made some compare screens in bmp (lossless), get them
in /compare dir. As you can see in 4500_progress vs. 4500_septic
their encode is also way to dark. There is virtually no difference otherwise.
SEPTiC your encode has more information about the rip in the dirname than in the
nfo file, sad but true. A paste from iMDB doesnt help anyone. So how could
people not being able to play dd+ (eac3) avoid your rips?
We have set up some very basic ripping guidelines, which we hope will give groups
and sites the ability to set some proper rules. The need for real rules is large
and this is by no means complete ripping rules.
1) No eac3, dd+ audio. All system cant playback this.
2) Use at least 3 bframes, and 2 passes.
3) Crop the black borders from the source.
4) Height and Width of rip must be evenly divided by 16.
5) 720p encodes can at most be 1280pixels in width and 720pixels in height.
7) Use the aspect ratio on the source, not what imdb says.
8) Encodes may only contain one audio track.
9) Downsample 1,5mbit audio unless you are forced to have to low
bitrate with dvd5 and have some space left on dvd9 with decent bitrate.
10) The nfo must contain information of used audio and video bitrate.
