The movie that started it all! The Shaw Brothers classic, The Flying
Guillotine introduced the moviegoing world to the most notorious weapon
in martial arts cinema history: the flying guillotine! Crafted by Xin
Kang (Goo Fung) at the behest of the Ching Emperor, the lethal killing
device features retractable razor-sharp blades hidden in a hat-like
object which, when thrown onto a victim via the connected chain, neatly
decapitates the poor victim with a satisfying metallic clang. Among the
band of assassins trained to use the flying guillotine is Ma Teng (Shaw
Brothers regular Chan Koon Tai), who starts as the most talented member
of the gang, and ends up as the gang's ultimate quarry. He goes on the
run for two years with his girlfriend, but the two cannot elude the
assassins forever. Eventually the gang will catch up with their former
member...and when they do, heads undoubtedly will roll. Directed by Ho
Meng Hua, The Flying Guillotine is a solid martial arts tale that has
reached cult status thanks to its titular device, a creative killing
machine whose existence would forever define martial arts cinema for
legions of fans!
