PLOT SUMMARY     : God and Satan war over earth; to settle things,
they wager on the soul of Faust, a learned and
prayerful alchemist. During a plague, Faust
despairs and burns his books after failing to
stop death; Satan sends Mephisto to tempt Faust,
first with insight into treating the plague and
then with a day's return to youth.

SPECiAL NOTES : A few techincal notes first.  After analysis of the
DVD, it became apparent that this dvd was created from
a progressive 19fps source.  Thus we reconstructed
this source as closely as possible.  It is not
perfect, as the current technology is not exactly
built for these rare cases.  In addition, since the
film itself is more than 75 years old, the source
upon which the movie was reconstructed for DVD is not
perfect and is itself occasionally missing one or more
frames.  Please feel free to check the sample to alleviate
your concerns.  Please note however, that the one apparent
skip in the sample is due to the DVD's mastering and not
the frame reconstruction process.  Had there been problem
with the reconstruction, multiple skips per second would
be visible.
This movie is a masterpiece of early German cinema.
It is a silent movie, but an orchestral score by
Timothy Brock and the Olympia Chamber Orchestra has
been included.  It is up to the viewer to choose whether
or not to listen to this audio track while experiencing
this fine film.  Enjoy!
