CONCERNING RESOLUTION RESTRICTIONS OF TDX STANDARDS.
Would of really liked to use 720x384 for this rip but TDX rules
restricted it. With this particular source (heavily relies on very
fine grain) at the higher resolution everything looked so much more
natural, particularly the walls which were not blocky at all. But
instead gotta go with a downsized encode at basically constant quant 2
to stick with the rules. Hopefully when/if the next TDX revision comes
along they reconsider the resolution restrictions especially the max
for WS (640x->720x) and the minimum for FS (448x->512x). We can
understand why they were limited back in 2000. But with the speed of
today's computers and XviD fully supporting full DVD resolution with
no reported issues (from what we've noticed), we can't see any reason
not to allow the higher resolutions as long as they are used wisely and
the minimum runtime for multiple CD's is still followed. Guess it's up
to some constructive criticism. If you think the majority of 2CD AC3
rips of 110-120 minute movies look good at 640x you'd be amazed at what
what they can look like at full DVD resolution. We know this encode
targets a small amount of people and maybe should of been noted in a
DiAMOND nfo (and maybe it will) but there was so much of an impact
on this encode that we felt it should be noted. But without action
there is no progress.
