I loved you first Genre ....: Drama | Romance
||, Notes ....: Time for another double dip..Our first rip was done
from a "Remastered & Uncensored Blu-Ray edition",
which had the same look all BtW retail releases
to date had, i.e. looked like crap :)
Now Criterion has stepped up and did a 4k Restoration
supervised by Von Trier. The result is overwhelmingly
better. It still "suffers" from the "Dogme 95"
prinicples, such as allowing only natural lighting
to be used (makes poorly lit segments to look
extremely grainy and rough).
Our research indicates that part of making the movie
look more "realistic", the quality was intentionally
degraded. It was shot on 35mm, then transfered to
video and then back to film....For this edition
they made a new digital tranfer in 6k from the original
35mm camera negatives and the 35mm internegative, and
then restored in 4k.
We've read some comments from people claiming the new
restore looks like they remember it from theatrical
screenings. We're somewhat skeptical about that, given
the movie is 18 years old :)
So to sum up with this new restore we get:
1) Vastly improved pq and colors
2) More frame details and pixels
3) DTS Audio
4) English subs
See Proof dir in 720p for some comparisons.
Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!
