Plot: Suffering short-term memory loss after a head injury, Leonard
Shelby (Guy Pearce) embarks on a grim quest to find the lowlife
who murdered his wife. To carry out his plan, Shelby snaps
Polaroids of people and places, jotting down contextual notes

than a hangman's noose.

Word of caution: If you haven't seen the original version of
Memento, we suggest you view it before viewing this version!
We are proud to present the chronological version of Memento, as never
seen before... Since there was a lot of work involved in putting
together this version, we thought it best to start by explaining the
differences between the various versions.
Original Version:
The movie contains Color, and Black and White scenes. The color scenes
play in reverse chronological order, while the black and white scenes
play in the correct order. The two are inter-twined in such a way that
the color scenes are separated by the black and white flashback scenes.
In addition, the end of each color scene repeats a short part of the
previous color scene, thus preserving some sort of continuity...
Confusing!!!
Limited Edition (Chronological Order):
The chronological version of the film can be accessed by solving a
puzzle in the Limited Edition of Memento. The main difference here is
that the end credits play in reverse, then the black and white scenes,
followed by the color scenes in chronological order. Finally, the
beginning sequence plays in forward order. An important thing to note
here is that the entire tatoo parlor scene is omitted from the
chronological version!*
VH-PROD version:
We assembled the chronological version of the movie from a rip of the
original version, this is because the existence of the limited edition
chronological version was brought to us after the fact :D To make a
long story short, the original version was cut up into approximately
43 parts, then carefully assembled and edited so that there wouldn't
be any repeated scenes**
What may seem to have been a simple task, it was considerably harder
than one would have expected. Although we were able to insert keyframes
for precise video editing, the same couldn't be said for the audio...
In the end, we had to process the audio in a separate utility to
manually synchronize it with the video, and to produce fade-ins/outs
at scene changes.
* As EPiSODE pointed out in their Memento Limited Edition nfo (23 July
2002), ripping the main movie title from the second dvd in the Limited
Edition yields the original version of the movie. However, we found
that vStrip and DVD Decrypter were able to access the first angle in
Title 3 properly, yielding the chronological version. The beginning
sequence and the reversed credits were contained on yet another angle &
title... Although the chronological version (as viewed on the dvd)
omits the tatoo parlor scene, the scene IS contained in the vobs.
** Even though the chronological version was found to be "rippable" it
still contains a considerable amount of repeated scenes. Please refer
to our "easter.egg" sample for an example of this phenomena. Left
unedited, it can get quite annoying.
Apart from the credits playing in reverse order and the beginning
sequence playing forward, you'll find that our version preserves the
flow of the movie, making it enjoyable to watch!
