personalities. He was a journalist, an author, a poet and a
singer. In the capacity of radio and TV journalist, he travelled
all over the world. He gave hundreds of concerts all over Norway.
His life and his writings were characterized by a strong
commitment to people and environment across all borders and
cultural differences. Concern for and desperation over human
warfare and atrocities marked his life, especially in its final
phase. His social commitment was ardent, and his activities have
influenced a whole nation through almost two generations. Erik Bye
was a monument in Norwegian community life, and a human being who
will live for a long time in the consciousness of the Norwegian
people.
