Title .................: Army of Shadows
Original title ........: Arm e des ombres, L' (1969)
Director ..............: Jean-Pierre Melville
User Rating ...........: 8.4/10 (1,201 votes)
Genre .................: Drama / War
IMDb URL ..............: http://imdb.com/title/tt0064040/
Plot Outline :
Jean-Pierre Melville's masterpiece about the French
Resistance against the Nazi occupation went unreleased
in the United States for thirty-seven years, before its
triumphant theatrical debut in 2006. Atmospheric and
gripping, "Army of Shadows" is Melville's most personal
film, featuring Lino Ventura, Paul Meurisse, Jean-Pierre
Cassel, and the incomparable Simone Signoret as intrepid
underground fighters who must grapple with their own
brand of honor in their battle against Hitler's
regime.
Criterion Collection - Spine # 385

Fresh out of the Criterion labs is this fa-bu-lous new
edition of "Army of Shadows" that contains for instance
a new high-definition digital transfer of the 2004 rest-
oration, supervised by director of photography Pierre
Lhomme, an audio commentary, interviews and a film rest-
oration demonstration by Lhomme. The first disc consists
of the full feature and theatrical trailers, which I
removed to increase the bitrate (get the DVD9 or buy the
film if you care for those). The second disc is stuffed
with the extras, of which I all decided to keep since I
found them all to be worth it.
This one's dedicated to Katharine Hepburn on her bday :)
