PLOT
In Season Two, East West 101 expands to seven episodes as the
Major Crime Squad investigate crime and murder in all quarters
of multicultural Sydney.
But overarching all, is the quest for Detective Zane Malik to
find the truth behind a car bomb attack which kills two men.
The Major Crime Squad form a joint task force with the NSO
(National Security Organisation) to deal with the crime. There
is paranoia in the city and fallout on the Muslim community.
Malik knows that in order to stop the circle of hate, he must
solve the crime. Was the bomb really an act of extremists, as
the media suggest, or a sophisticated killing by a career
criminal? Malik doggedly pursues the truth until he, too,
becomes a target.
Inspector Patricia Wright questions his motives but her vision
is clouded by personal issues she wants to remain hidden from
the squad. Crime has touched her own family.
EPISODE SUMMARY
Episode 2.05: Men of Conscience
A mysterious crossbow murder has Major Crime busy. A little
girl witnesses the death. This resonates for Wright, who lost
her mother at the same age. She is still dealing with the
aftershock, thirty years later, in the shape of her troubled
brother Craig. International crooks are pursuing him
relentlessly. He is in mortal danger.
The team investigate the circumstances around the crossbow
murder. Who had motive? Muslim man, non Muslim wife, with an
issue of custody. Is this a domestic murder the detectives are
dealing with? Malik checks out their emotional history. He
could be investigating his own marriage. Too much work, not
enough family time, and a growing distance that lead to a
breakdown.
Sophia receives an intriguing call from a Canberra public
servant, Kirkbride. Sophia asks Malik to come with her to
Canberra to talk to him. Kirkbride is a conflicted man. He
knows the murdered man, Angleton, was involved with something
that happened in Indonesia but he wants the night to think,
before sharing it.
Sophia and Malik have to spend the night in Canberra.
Together. Will the budding attraction between them blossom
into something more? Agent Skerritt warns Malik about getting
too close to Sophia. She's a piece of work.
Inspector Wright is not aware Malik is in Canberra. For one
thing, Koa covers for him; for another, Wright and Deakin are
trying to get Craig to leave the country. But will sending
Craig to New Zealand save him? Or will Craig's problems
follow him wherever he goes?
As the cops close in on the crossbow murderer, Wright
discovers Malik's absence. He's in Canberra and Kirkbride's
been found dead. The local police say it is suicide. But is
it? Wright is not happy. But she has other problems to deal
with. Protecting her brother.
