He is known as The Baron. Tall, handsome & debonair, John
Mannering is a man who knows the world & thrives on adventure
through his business as an exclusive international art and
antique dealer. It's a business that stirs greed, vanity and
passions that propel him into exciting, danger-laden adventures
stemming from the fabulous wares he handles and the people who
buy, sell or steal precious treasures.
As if that's not enough, The Baron is persuaded to assist British
Intelligence, aided by the glamorous Cordelia (Sue Lloyd) as they
risk their lives on espionage missions for the head of Diplomatic
Intelligence, John Alexander Templeton-Green (Colin Gordon).
Episode 08: The Persuaders
David Marlowe is kidnapped from Mannering's shop. For his release
he must sell a false Renoir to Sir Robert Ellacott. Mannering
calls on Templeton-Green for help. The Baron follows his orders
and sells the picture but whilst visiting he meets Sir Robert's
nephew Roddy and becomes suspicious. When Marlowe is stabbed by
Roddy as he attempts to escape, the other gang members become
nervous. Mannering has to meet Roddy with the ransom money to
ensure that Marlowe isn't killed.
