PLOT
Featuring the formidable comedic talents of John Clarke (Fred
Dagg, Death In Brunswick), Gina Riley, Bryan Dawe and Ross
Stevenson, this hit ABC comedy series is a deadpan, surreal and
highly satirical look at bureacrats in the throws of organising
the extravaganza that will be the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
A classic parody of Australian bureaucratic culture, our bungling
committee - with comic legend John Clarke at the helm - have to
deal with a 100 metres running track that is several metres short
of the mark; over zealous sponsorship opportunities from tobacco
companies; and a sex-change athlete - do they run in the men's or
women's events?
John Clarke brillantly plays the prickly team leader, prone to
bone-dry quips, dirty tricfks and scathing remarks; Gina Riley is
the acerbic head of Games PR; while Bryan Dawe plays the quietly
flustered money man with his eyes on the bottom line.
EPISODE SUMMARY
1x06: Millennium Bug
Gina is very excited about her new Voice Recognition word
processing software, John and Bryan attempt to fax an important
budget document they don't actually have a copy of anymore, and
John discovers (much to his surprise) that he had volunteered
several months ago to prepare a report on the Games' Y2K
compliance for presentation to the IOC's Director of Technology
in about an hour. Finally, the trio attempt to hold a live online
press conference.
