PLOT
The Irish R.M. was based on the stories by Somerville and Ross
and tells of the adventures of the monocled Major Sinclair
Yeates (played by Peter Bowles) as an English army officer who
resigns his commission and becomes the Resident Magistrate in
a rural Ireland village at the end of the nineteenth century.
He finds himself living in a ramshackle old manor house
surrounded by the colourful and eccentric inhabitants of the
district... Especially the Knox family, who seem to have a
finger in every pie.
EPISODE SUMMARY
Season 2, Ep 3: Holy Island
A ship with a full cargo of rum runs aground near Skebawn, and
the locals engage in drunken revelry as the barrels wash
ashore. Of course, the subsequent police search reveals
practically no sighs of rum.
The Major tries to forget the frustrating rum incident with a
snipe hunt and an ill-trained dog. When the afternoon is cut
short, he is left to deal with the mystery of the missing rum,
an expired clergyman, and his wife, who is frightened by a
noise sounding like snoring.
