[ PLOT ]

The year is 2020 and the first habitable planets outside our solar
system have been discovered. They may look reassuringly familiar,
but they are teeming with alien life. Aurelia and Blue Moon may be
fantasy, but experts believe that life-supporting worlds like these
could be discovered in the next ten years by a new generation of
telescopes - the Planet Finder and the Keppler. In a unique experiment,
some of the world's leading experts in astrobiology and astronomy -
including scientists from NASA, SETI and Cambridge University -
join together to explore the reality of alien life. Using the world's
most powerful computers the team have designed the planets and brought
their inhabitants to life. But the life supported in these extraordinary
alien environments is very different to our own. The scientists explore
how these creatures might live and die and consider whether aliens could
be more advanced than we are. In the final part of the series, the
experts look at Blue Moon, a planet whose atmosphere is three times
denser than Earth's and supports an alien world of flying life forms,
including Sky Whales. But a terrifying predator is stalking this
apparently idyllic world. The series coincides with a major exhibition
at the Science Museum.
