PLOT
anet McTeer is Helen Hewitt, one of Britain's few female prison governors
in this critically acclaimed drama series based upon the real life stories
of genuine inmates at some of Britain's toughest prisons. Charged with
maintaining a high security all male prison, Hewitt's first job is to
gain the respect of her male colleagues. Her second to bring under control
a hardened group of murderers, violent thugs and addicts. State-of-the-art
HM Barfield has just endured one of the worst prison riots in memory and
lies virtually in ruin. Hewitt must rebuild its reputation from the inside
out. But that's only the start of her struggles as the prisoners are eager
to rattle the new Governor, and the staff distrustful of their new female
boss. Add to this the daily grind of drugs, escape attempts and prisoner
violence and Hewitt is faced with a formidable task.
