PLOT
Janet McTeer is Helen Hewitt, one of Britain's few female
prison governors in this critically acclaimed drama series
based upon the real life stories of genuine inmates at some of
Britain's toughest prisons. Charged with maintaining a high
security all male prison Hewitt's first job is to gain the
respect of her male colleagues. Her second is to bring under
control a hardened group of murderers, violent thugs and
addicts. State of the art HM Barfield has just endured one of
the worst prison riots in memory and lies virtually in ruin.
Hewitt must rebuild its reputation from the inside out. But
that's only the start of her struggles as the prisoners are
eager to rattle the new Governor, and the staff distrustful of
their new female boss. Add to this the daily grind of drugs,
escape attempts and prisoner violence and Hewitt is faced with
a formidable task.
EPISODE SUMMARY
Season 1, Episode 6
The new prison is virtually completed and Helen demands that
the new security systems are sorted out soon. The prisoners
get drunk and one prisoner is attacked in the showers and his
throat cut. Two other prisoners take advantage of the
situation and attempt an escape. Helen realises that she could
be replaced as the governor of Barfield, and has to fight to
get the prison back in order before the Prison Services visit.
