EPISODE SUMMARY
Season 1, Episode 1: Black and Blue
Is the first instalment of this compelling series, Inspector
John Rebus (John Hannah) is on the disturbing trail of the
self-named, Disciple - a copycat serial killer who models his
crimes on The Preacher, responsible for similar atrocities
fifteen years earlier, but never convicted.
When the bodies of two prostitutes, one in Edinburgh, the
other in Aberdeen, are discovered, strangled and clutching
bibical quotations, Rebus knows the two murders are the work
of The Disciple. His investigations, however, are formally cut
short when he is taken off the case after allegations of
conspiring with his old boss, William Geddis, to plant
evidence on Lenny Spaven who is serving a life sentence for
the murder of his girlfriend fifteen years earlier. Was Spaven
guilty as convicted, or is the real killer still out there?
