PLOT
John Hannah (Four Weddings And A Funeral, Sliding Doors) stars
as the complex and engmatic Detective Inspector Rebus in this
powerful drama, adapted from the novels of award-winning
writer Ian Rankin - the UK's number one best-selling crime
writer.
EPISODE SUMMARY
Season 1, Episode 3: Dead Soul
Rebus is working with colleague and friend Jim Margolies when
they catch sight of convicted paedophile Darren Rough taking
photographs at the zoo. It transpires that Rough has been
released early from prison, is under police protection and is
to be a key witness in the trail of suspected abusers, Ince
and Marshall. The sighing of Rough has a profound and
disturbing effect on Jim Margolies. He is found dead the next
day at the foot of Salisbury Crags in the centre of Edinburgh.
Rebus is devastated by his death and sets out to find the true
reason, and whether it was murder or suicide.
At the same time, Rebus is approached by Janice Mee, his one
time girlfriend from his teenage years in Fife. Her nineteen
-year-old son has gone missing and she pleads for help from
Rebus in finding him, Rebus cannot refuse. During the course
of his hunt for her son, his feelings for Janice are rekindled
and Rebus and Janice are drawn into a complex web of love and
guilt.
