Proper notes: SAiNTS cropped and resized a 1280x720 source to end up with
their final 1280x720 encode. This is not permitted under the drafted 720p
standards because it harms quality. There's a lot of technical information
to explain the signal processing theory behind it, but basically, upconverting
loses actual resolution. Here's a little cheat sheet for those of you playing
along at home:
Source Steps to be taken Notes
1920x1080 Crop/resize None
1440x1080 Crop/resize None
1280x720 Crop/AddBorders if needed If a release has junk
such as gray/green/white
lines for the entire
episode, they need to be
removed. Never upconvert!
1280x1080 Crop/resize vertical, Again, garbage needs to go
crop/addborders horizontal away, but we need to never
upconvert video. Use of this
source should be noted in
the nfo so it is not nuked
for bad.crop.
All sources obviously need other appropriate processing such as deinterlacing,
IVTC, or decimation to return to the proper framerate.
If you need proof of the cropping/resizing, compare the included screenshots
taken from the same frame from each group's release.
In addition to having the contrast blown out so bad that it is washing out the
image, the SAiNTS release is quite obviously cropped/resized when compared to
an uncropped/unresized source such as ours. The numbers on there indicate the
distance from the edge of the frame to the rating logo which is constant
between stations. Differences in these numbers indicate the stretching and loss
of original image done by cropping.
We are looking for east/central cappers with at least 120KB/s upload.pineapple.sorbet*gmail*com
