Summary
Happy persists with attending his son's stormy therapy
sessions. It's painful, but he can see that he and Jason are
making progress, and he's grateful to the psychiatrist, Dr
Alfarno. Then he is amazed and dismayed when Alfarno is
accused of sexual misconduct with a patient.
Simon has a bad knee, but, although he's a surgeon, he's
never been a patient. With great anxiety, he books himself
in for an arthroscopy - and experiences the medical system
from the other side. But it's an opportunity for Amanda to
show some practical kindness for the man she's started to
care for more and more.
She and Jamie, meanwhile, represent a radiologist whose
patient suffered a severe allergic reaction to X-ray dye.
The patient, Penny Silvani, is a spunky motor-mouth real
estate agent in her 40s. Amanda is frustrated when Jamie not
only argues that Penny has a case, but is also clearly
attracted to her.
Happy is frustrated too. He wants to help Alfarno, but the
usually rational psychiatrist is a mass of evasions,
contradictions and rationalisations when it comes to his own
life. He claims that he did not become involved with his
patient until he had referred her to another psychiatrist -
and that he is in love with her.
On a secret date with Penny, Jamie realises that she really
is ill - the reason for her being at the radiologist. He
takes her to hospital and arranges tests. A minor condition
is discovered and Penny is appropriately grateful. Next day,
Jamie has a great big smile he doesn't want to explain.
Alfarno is deregistered as a psychiatrist, but is now free
to be with his former patient! Jason has lost his valued
therapist, but he and Happy realise, thanks to Alfarno, that
they can now communicate honestly.
