Fitz is hard-pressed to prove the guilt or innocence of a
murder suspect claiming to have amnesia, despite a mountain
of evidence against him. Meanwhile, Fitz goes down on bended
knee, trying to woo Judith back home. He also enters
gambling therapy, which backfires in the most extreme manner
possible.
This is the US remake of the classic British series by the
same name, which starred Robbie Coltrane as Gerry "Fitz"
Fitzgerald.
Here Robert Pastorelli, best remembered as Eldin the
Housepainter on Murphy Brown, plays the role of Fitz. It was
also the debut of Josh Hartnett, starring as his son. The US
version of Cracker never received much acclaim, and was
cancelled after only one season. Critics were bound to slay
it no matter what, considering how great the original show
was, but I still think that Robert Pastorelli delivered the
performance of his life on this series. In my opinion he did
a terrific job as a charming anti-hero, and if only people
would stop comparing this to the British original, I think
more would find it enjoyable.
Sadly Robert Pastorelli passed away last year, after a tough
couple of years since his girlfriend, with whom he had a
daughter, shot herself. He was a fine actor, and I feel that
Cracker is a great testament to his talent.
His last performance was in Be Cool, which was recently
playing in theaters.
