PLOT
On October 23, 1958, in the pages of the Belgian magazine
Spirou, Johan and Teewit are the heroes of a cartoon taking
place in the Middle Ages, which then comprises eight episodes.
At the turn of a page in the ninth story, a small voice is
suddenly heard: "Can't you look where you smufr? You nearly
smurfed me!"
Then a small blue skinned gnome emerges from behind a rock.
Others come join him. One of them has a venerable white beard:
he's Papa Smurf, their chief...
The Smurfs have appeared. No one realises yet that this humble
beginning is the birth of a genuine myth. As secondary
characters in the album "The Magic Flute", the Smurfs could
have disappeared with the word "End" written on the last page,
but public enthusiasm decided otherwise. Peyo will have them
live their own adventures, first in small format short
stories, then in a series of increasingly successful albums...
