Firstly;
As it's been established that x264 and XviD dupe one another,
we hope to see consistency with nuking and that any XviD
releases of these will be either tagged INTERNAL or nuked.
Because, so far, this hasn't been happening. Example:
Dark.Shadows.2012.BDRip.x264-FUTURE was released September 7.
Dark.Shadows.2012.BDRip.XviD-NeDiVx was released September 13.
NeDiVx didn't use INTERNAL, nor were they nuked for it.
*whistles*
Secondly;
For whatever reason, Universal decided to place the 2011
Christmas special exclusively on the S01-02 DVD/BD set which
wasn't released in NZ alongside the S02 set - it's date
is still TBC - and so we weren't able to rip it because, well,
it's simply not there on the S02 DVD/BD.
It has, however, been released in the UK.
So you'll either have to wait for the set to be released
in NZ and we'll rip it, or until someone in the UK does it.
Thirdly;
As SD-Retail x264 has no rules at the moment, other than
codec.dupe on DVDRip.XviD, we're choosing to act as though
the rules that we want to see in the rules when they come
are in play and valid.
One thing we are pushing for is BDRip doesn't dupe DVDRip
as x264 can provide higher quality releases when a higher
quality source is used - even when encoded exactly the same
way. Therefore, we welcome anyone to 'supersede' our releases
with BDRip.x264 without tagging them as INTERNAL. :)
Other things we are pushing for/want are listed below.
The following are items that we at FiHTV feel should be
included in the SD-Retail x264 rules - whenever they come.
- BDRip doesn't dupe DVDRip. DVDRip dupes BDRip.
Our testing shows BDRip produces higher quality releases
than the same TV show/film ripped from DVD - even when the
same x264 settings are used.
Unlike XviD, x264 doesn't shit all over a higher quality
source.
- Native fps releases don't dupe converted fps releases.
The opposite does not apply.
ie Modern.Family.S01E01.NATIVE.DVDRip.x264-NTSCDVD can
be released after
Modern.Family.S01E01.CONVERT.DVDRip.x264-PALDVD but
CONVERT cannot come after NATIVE.
CONVERT tag is used to signify that the release is at a
framerate that is different to what the TV show/film was
filmed at - ie NTSC to PAL (aka PAL speedup) or PAL to NTSC.
NATIVE tag is only used if a CONVERT release already exists.
Therefore, tagging just DVDRip or BDRip implies the release
is NATIVE and no CONVERT release exists.
Sure you could just INTERNAL, but this would encourage
people to rip content at the original framerate instead
of just leaving it. PAL speed-up sucks.
As BluRay doesn't convert framerates for specific regions,
Modern.Family.S01E01.BDRip.x264-UKBLURAY would be
considered NATIVE unless it's one of those rare occasions
where PAL speedup is applied to a retail BluRay.
Death to PAL speedup within the scene!
With these two rules in play, the pecking order would be:
BDRip/NATIVE.BDRip > CONVERT.BDRip > DVDRip/NATIVE.DVDRip > CONVERT.DVDRip
- We also need to follow SDx264's lead and use CRF. Encoding
to filesizes like we did for XviD (and, for some reason, still
do for retail HD) is an old, outdated concept that really
needs to die with XviD.
