proper notes: While we are loathe to proper for quality reasons, whoever's release was so awful that we couldn't
let it slide. They used the worst possible settings to get a release out as fast as possible,
including not even
using B frames. B frames are an integral part of H.264's ability to give great looking results at low bitrates,
and not using them results in crap. Whenever the committee finally gets around to finalizing the 720p.x264
standards (really, we're working on it), the use B frames will be mandatory, with the minimum being 3, and other
past reasons for propering such as resizing 720p will be officially stated for the record. Below are MCR's settings,
take a look for yourself. As a side note, we continue to advocate the use of better settings such as
subme 6, mixed
references, trellis quantization, and CABAC, all of which provide significant quality benefits and were not
used by whoever in their rush to get out a release. 720p is about quality, not speed, so let's not
turn this into
normal res, OK?
