Description:
You may have seen the pictures of Jamie with a smallish
alligator draped over his shoulders like a feather boa.
Well, tonight we see how it got there as our man goes
alligator hunting in the backwoods of Louisiana. It's not
an especially noble sight. To catch an alligator, you bait a
big old hook with chicken and dangle it over the water,
then come back the next day to find an angry reptile on
he end of your line. At which point you get your revolver
out and shoot it in the head. Seeing Jamie taking two-
handed aim like a police marksman then blasting away is
faintly comic, and a little grisly at the same time. And that's
before he's skinned it - another eye-opening scene, as
Jamie discovers the delights of a culinary meat that's new
to him. Elsewhere, he cooks gumbo (okra stew) at a "
second line" back-street party in New Orleans and learns
about the "holy trinity" of the local cuisine - onion, celery
nd peppers. Somehow the bumptious energy of Jamie's
previous series isn't quite there, but this road trip is still a
terrific watch.
